My Beetle

irst registered on the Isle of Wight on the 17th April 1963 and owned by a prison officer, this Beetle was bought by my Father in 1985 in immaculate condition for the princely sum of £150.
The Beetle was driven on the Isle of Wight up to the late seventies when the owner moved to Tring in Hertfordshire, where it was driven by his daughter for a couple of years. It was then garaged up until we bought it.
My Father drove the Beetle locally for about five years then it was laid up in his garden under cover  until I put it back on the road, and drove it for about 18 months in `93-`94. Due to the fact it`s only 6v, Winter driving isn`t really an option ,so it went back to bed up until April 2000.
The restoration process has now begun.

My Build
Starts Here

I have just re-built and detailed the engine and engine bay and the condition of the engine and the fact that the underside has had minimal welding, has led me to the conclusion that the 137k on the clock is probably genuine.
A few numbers of interest:
Chassis no. 5280486
Engine no.  7348400
Paint code  L380 Turkis Blue

Summer 2005 project is some welding to the rear end, and quick respray, to keep the weather out until I have room/time to split the body/chassis.

That was the plan, it ended up as a total split and rebuild. The bottom eight inches were replaced, whether it needed it or not. Sprayed and refitted with all quality parts, it`s now back on the road. Paint needs touching up, don`t use Finnegans pink rust primer, it soaks up cellulose paint and makes it look like crazy paving. Boy am I upset.
